IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN,
BUT THINGS HAVE CHANGED A BIT...

The Ogunquit Spirit of Giving committee hopes that you and yours are doing well in these unprecedented times.

LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE, THIS YEARS SPIRIT OF GIVING IS GOING TO BE DIFFERENT.
In light of pandemic restrictions, strained resources, and our desire to keep our sponsors, volunteers, and recipient organizations safe, we can not be host an in-person party this year, nor will we be collecting gifts for children. However, we want to do something to ensure that we are able to provide a brighter Christmas this year to as many of the 600+ children we would normally provide gifts for.

WE HAVE CREATED A GoFundMe PAGE.
We've done this for you to provide monetary donations in lieu of shopping for specific children. We understand that 2020 has proven to be a challenging financial year for many. No contribution is too small (or too big)! We will split all funds collected between Adoptive and Foster Families of Maine and Frannie Peabody Center. Each organization’s staff will then distribute the proceeds based on the needs of their client families, buying gift cards, ordering gifts online, etc.

YOU CAN STILL GIVE GIFT CARDS OR SEND A CHECK.
For sponsors who are unable or prefer not to use the GoFund Me page, you may send checks payable to Spirit of Giving, or gift cards to major retailers (e.g. Walmart, Target, Amazon, Hannaford) to:
P.O. Box 88, Ogunquit, ME 03907.

The Committee and our recipient organizations greatly appreciate your continued support. We look forward to being able to see everyone next year for a normal Spirit of Giving party!

ABOUT US
In 2005, a group of citizens in the Ogunquit area went to their families and friends and asked them to “adopt”/sponsor children from the Adoptive & Foster Families of Maine program.  AFFM is a small non-profit association that provides support services, training and referral service to all the foster, adoptive and kinship families in the state.

All of the gifts donated go to children in kinship placements.  Kinship families are particularly deserving of these gifts because the families tend to be ones for whom there is little financial reimbursement.  Most are grandparents that have fixed or minimal incomes.

We have now included children associated with the Frannie Peabody Center.  Holiday gifts are a luxury for many in this population. In order to provide gifts for the children, the care providers would need to use money that would otherwise be used to heat their homes or pay for food, utilities, medicines or other essentials.

In the first year of the event the community supported 80 children in the kinship program.  In 2006 the community supported 203 children.  In 2007 the committee far exceeded its goal and with the support of the community was able to brighten the holidays of 299 children in the Kinship program of AFFM.

In addition to providing the gifts the committee enlisted a driver and truck to help deliver the gifts to 7 strategic pick up sites throughout the state.  The group also provided gift certificates for groceries to several families.
